Questions are resolved through the semantic layer, not by guessing SQL against raw tables. When the data cannot support an answer, the analyst says so instead of inventing one — because a confident wrong number in an accounting app is worse than no number. It gets quoted in a meeting, and nobody goes back to check it.

Grounding is not a disclaimer at the bottom of the answer. It is the only route the analyst has to a number at all.

I cannot answer that from your Tally data — no payroll ledgers are synced, so any number would be invented. Map a salary group and I will compute it.
Refused rather than estimated
That last answer is the point. Nothing in the synced books maps to payroll, so there is no honest staff-cost figure to give — and the analyst says exactly that, along with what you would have to map for it to become answerable. It is allowed to refuse, and it does.

About the analyst specifically.
What stops it from inventing a number?
It can only answer through the governed measures defined over your synced books, so it has no route to a figure that is not there. Every answer carries its measure, its dimensions and its record count, one tap from the vouchers behind it. When a question cannot be answered from those measures it says so rather than estimating.
Can it change anything in my books?
No. The analyst reads; it does not write. Entries posted back into Tally go through the console’s New Entry screen and the Push Queue, which is opt-in per company and separate from Ask.
Which plan includes it?
Growth and above. Starter carries the flagship reports, the mobile app and outstanding with aging; the analyst and the self-serve builder switch on at Growth.
Does it see other companies on my account?
No. A question is scoped to the company you are looking at, and the tenant is pinned from the verified token rather than from anything in the request. A cross-tenant read returns 404.
What happens when a question is outside the books?
It refuses, and it tells you why — usually that the data it would need is not mapped or not synced. Where something would make the question answerable, such as mapping a salary group, it says that too.
Can I see the query behind an answer?
Yes. Each answer offers the compiled query along with the measure and dimensions it resolved, and the records it counted are one tap away.
